Technical Writer, 43'rd Best Job in the U.S. in 2019

Careercast, who have been listing the best jobs in America for the past 30 years have listed ‘Technical Writer’ in the 43‘rd position for 2019. This is a fall from previous standings. ‘Technical Writer’ was in the 31’st position in 2016 and in the 24’th position in 2015. Despite this fall in position ‘Technical Writer’ beats every other writing job in the rankings. The closest writing job, Typist / Word Processor came in at position 112 and Stenographer at 120. But the astonishing thing is that ‘Technical Writer’ even beat several other key jobs and positions in the list including Civil Engineer, Surgeon, Psychiatrist, Judge, School Principal though the just-mentioned jobs have bigger salaries and some, good growth.

Bear in mind that the list of jobs listed by Careercast is not for IT jobs or Writing jobs alone but one considering all types of jobs there are in the U.S.A (excluding Political Positions of course!). This includes jobs in the Medicial profession and Health Care, Engineering, Law, Hospitality and Services, University and Education, Business and Office Administration. Also take a note of the other information in the report for Technical Writer. The Average Median Income for the Technical Writer in 2019 was $71,815.00.

As I have mentioned earlier, as long as new software continues to be created every day, user manuals or user guides to explain what the software or app does is mandatory and therefore the demand for good Technical Writers is only increasing.

Besides end-user software documentation Technical writers are also involved in the documentation work during the making of the software, from its inception till completion, though end-user  documentation is the primary task of the Technical Writer.
